Mile Zero is operated by Fieldcraft LLC ("Mile Zero," "we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers the Mile Zero iOS app and this website, milezero.app.
We wrote this in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email us at contact@fieldcraftllc.com and we'll answer.
Location. While you're using the app, Mile Zero uses your device location to show nearby spots, to attach your on-site contributions to the right place, and to credit visits. We request location only while you're using the app ("When In Use"). We do not track your location in the background, and we do not keep a history of your raw location fixes. When we credit a visit, we keep only a coarse distance category and the date — the precise coordinate is discarded at that point.
Your account. When you sign in (including Sign in with Apple), we store your email address, a display name, and an internal account ID. If you use Sign in with Apple's private email relay, we only ever see the relay address Apple provides.
Your contributions. The heart of Mile Zero is the content you add: the spots you submit, notes and written observations, edits, and the messages you send to the in-app assistant and route planner. We store this to build the shared, contributor-driven map that is the product. Free-text you write to the assistant or planner is processed by our AI provider to generate responses (see sub-processors below).
Membership. If you buy a membership, Apple processes the payment through the App Store. Mile Zero never receives your card or bank details — we store only whether your membership is active and when it expires.
Trust and reputation. As you contribute, Mile Zero derives your impact, trust standing, visit count, and travelers-helped. This is part of how the community works and how contributions are weighted.
App diagnostics. To find and fix crashes and performance problems, Mile Zero collects crash and error reports, performance data, and a diagnostic identifier for your app install, along with basic device and app-version details. This diagnostic data is not linked to your identity for tracking, we keep IP-address storage turned off, and it never includes your location, your contributions, or your login details.
Product analytics. When you're signed in, Mile Zero collects basic analytics about how you use features — for example which screens and actions you use — to understand what's working and improve the app. This is tied to your account ID so we can measure usage accurately. It never includes your location or the content you write, and you can opt out at any time (see "Your choices and rights"). We collect no analytics before you sign in.
Website analytics. On our website (milezero.app), we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless page-view counter, so we can see roughly how many people visit. It sets no cookies, collects no personal information, and does not track you across other sites — so it needs no cookie banner. This applies to the website only, not the app.
Technical data. When the app talks to our servers, our hosting and infrastructure providers process the request, including your device's IP address in transit, to deliver the service. When the app draws the map, our map-tile providers receive the approximate area you're viewing.
Mile Zero relies on a small set of vetted service providers ("sub-processors") to run the app and the website. Each receives only what it needs:
| Provider | What it does for Mile Zero | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Sign-in and our main database | Email, account ID, display name, all contribution content, trust data |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchase, app delivery | Sign-in identity (possibly a private-relay email), all payment details, app distribution |
| Fly.io | Hosts our application servers | App traffic, including request IP addresses in transit |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Powers the in-app assistant and route planner | The free-text you send to the assistant/planner, and related place context |
| Mapbox | Route-planner search and directions | The origin/destination place names you type and the resolved route |
| MapTiler and Protomaps | Map imagery (tiles) | The approximate map area you're viewing, and your IP address |
| Statsig | Feature management and, when you're signed in, product analytics | Your account ID when signed in; which features are enabled; product-usage events (never your location or content) |
| Sentry | Crash, error, and performance diagnostics | Crash/performance data and a diagnostic install identifier; never your location, content, or login details; IP storage off |
| Cloudflare | Website analytics (page views for milezero.app) | Cookieless, aggregate page-view counts; no cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking |
| Expo | App builds and over-the-air updates | Update-check requests |
We require our providers to protect your information and use it only to provide their service to us. We do not authorize them to use your data for their own advertising.
Delete your contributions. You can delete any contribution at any time from within the app. It comes off your profile, your impact, and future summaries — as promised in the charter.
Choose who sees each spot. Every spot you add is Open, Shared, or Secret — your call, and it stays your call even if your Club dues lapse.
Turn off product analytics. Settings includes a "Share product analytics from this device" switch. Turn it off and Mile Zero stops sending product-analytics events from that device. (This controls product analytics; crash/performance diagnostics that keep the app stable are always minimal and never include your location or content.)
Location. You can turn Mile Zero's location access on or off at any time in your device's iOS Settings. Mile Zero only asks for location while you're using the app.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA). If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. As stated above, we do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of — but you can still exercise your other rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@fieldcraftllc.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
To delete your account, email us at contact@fieldcraftllc.com and we'll process it. When we delete your account, we remove your personal information — your email, display name, and the personal details in your assistant/planner history are removed, with any remaining personal details in stored conversations stripped within about 30 days. Contributions you made to the shared map may remain as part of the community's data, but detached from your identity.
Because location is central to Mile Zero, here's exactly how we handle it:
Mile Zero is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, email contact@fieldcraftllc.com and we'll delete it.
At launch, Mile Zero is available in the United States only, and this policy is written for U.S. users under U.S. law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act. If we expand to other regions, we'll update this policy to reflect the additional rights that apply.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including access controls on our database and encryption of data in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard what you entrust to us.
We're transparent about features we've decided to add but that are not yet in the app at launch. We will update this policy before it begins collecting data:
If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Mile Zero after a change means you accept the updated policy.
